About - The head coach

Meet Coach Shaan Sahai

The man behind Progress Footy, Shaan, was born in India and moved to Prince Rupert, where he lived until the age of 15 before his family moved to the mainland.

When Shaan and his family moved here, a young Shaan discovered his real love for soccer. It began in grades 10 and 11, where he was on the team that went to the provincials for the first time in 22 years. Though he may have been considered “older” to start the game, he was and is a natural. Throughout this time, Shaan has excelled and loves the game.

Once in Metro Vancouver, he started with Coastal for a season in 2017 and its BCSPL team, then played a season with Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club and its BCSPL team.

In 2019, Shaan found his home with SFC, where he continues to be today as a coach and player.

Shaan is passionate about working with children and wants to see them grow and develop. This passion has led him to his other career with the Surrey School Board as an EA, working with children with special needs.

Shaan brings all this to his coaching and so much more. He wants to see each child he works with succeed on and off the field. With his experience, he understands what it takes for a child to reach the next level, from Div 1 to BCSPL, and even how to try to make it to higher levels if they dream of it.
